Beach Clean at Eype’s Mouth - Sunday 6 October, 1.30pm

Published: 10 September 2024

Symondsbury Parish Council and Clean Jurassic Coast have joined forces to organise a community beach clean at Eype’s Mouth, Eype, Bridport on Sunday 6 October.

It’s important to remove plastic and other rubbish from the beach – not only does it look unsightly but it is also a serious threat to wildlife and affects the quality of the sea water. As well as being good for the environment, community beach cleans can be good fun too. It gets you out into the fresh air and onto the beach. You can make new friends and find out lots from other volunteers.

Free parking has been generously provided by Eype Beach Holiday Park DT6 6AL. It’s the second to last turning on the right at the bottom of Mount Lane Eype. You can find it by putting the postcode into your satnav or by using What3Words  tornado.bundles.cleanser

Make sure to check the weather for the day so you can wear appropriate clothing to fit the temperamental British weather! The beach clean will last approximately an hour.

Clean Jurassic Coast are kindly providing the equipment, insurance and expertise.

Please read the following advice.

·       Please inform the Beach Clean Leader (BCL) of any medical problems or allergies during the safety briefing

·       Wear sturdy closed toe shoes (no sandals/flip flops etc)

·       Always keep your gloves on and make sure you wash your hands before eating/drinking/smoking

·       Bring water/snacks to avoid dehydration/hunger

·       Please stick together – no lone working

·       Stick to the agreed cleaning area, staying away from the water and any cliffs

·       Do not pick up any glass or needles – inform the BCL who will have a sharps box

·       Handle litter with care (fish hooks can be hidden in seaweed and disposable BBQs can be partially buried and still hot)

·       If something looks suspicious or dangerous (e.g. unexploded ordnance) do not touch it and alert the BCL

·       Driftwood and seaweed can stay on the beach – they are natural and an important source of nutrients for the area

·       Don’t fill your bag too full! Your back is worth looking after. Please ask the BCL for another bag

·       If you feel unsafe or unwell at any point, stop and speak to the BCL or First Aider

·       Please remember to take your own litter away, including cigarette ends!

If you have any questions, please ask the BCL at any time.

Remember that we don’t have to pick up everything – if you are not comfortable collecting certain types of litter, just leave it and inform the BCL.
